Multiplication Songs

We are back to memorizing multiplication facts in order to prepare for fourth grade!  This week, we are practicing multiples of 8.

To help with this, feel free to watch the video below:

We will continue throughout the next few weeks with more of Have Fun Teaching videos, studying multiples of 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 5, and 10.  Go ahead and find the videos on YouTube for additional practice at home!  Just search "Have Fun Teaching Counting by ___."

Enjoy!

Mystery Skypes

Wow, our first month back has flown by!  We've been busy in class engaging in invigorating new learning activities.  Specifically, throughout the month of February, 3C has been begun to engage in Mystery Skypes.

What are Mystery Skypes?

Mytery Skypes are critical thinking games that 3C takes part in while Skyping with another class from somewhere - anywhere - else in the world.  The students do not know the location of the other class, so their goal is to use yes or no questions in order to guess the other school's location (the country, city, or maybe even the school's name!) before the other class guesses ours.

For more information on Mystery Skype, please the Skype website.

3C's Experiences:

Kaya has been busy blogging about our experiences during Mystery Skypes over the past month.  To see her summaries, please visit her blog!

International Dot Day 2016

Dear Parents,

Thanks so  much to all of you who celebrated Dot Day with us on Thursday.  The third graders loved sharing their Voicethreads, playing games, and celebrating Making Their Mark with you!  Special thanks to Maria for her hand in organizing the games and snacks, and thank you to all who brought in delicious treats as well!

I have created a Shared Dot Day Photos Folder for all of the photos from that day, so if you have any that you would like to share with our classroom community, please add them!

To view the Voicethreads that your students have created, please visit the ePortfolios page in the menu located on the right side, and click to view your child's blog.  Here you will see their written narratives, reflections, and mandalas, as well as the link to the Voicethreads.  Be sure to check back on their blog throughout the year to see updates on their projects, and feel free to leave comments of both encouragement and suggestions for improvement!

Thank you so much for joining in on our classroom festivities.  It is an honor to be working with such a wonderful group of parents!

Feliz Finde,

Ms. Hodges

Is it Really the End of Week 2?!

Wow, time is flying by!  Already we are at the end of week two, and the 3C class has learned many routines for Daily 3 and Daily 5, created bar graphs, drafted I Am poems, collaborated during the marshmallow challenge, fostered new friendships, learned seven different reading strategies, and tiptoed into using Google Drive.  Thanks to both parents and students for a successful start to the year!

Please see the updated tabs on the blog for Classroom Info packets, Daily 5 and Daily 3 literacy and math informational letters, and contact updates.

Feliz Finde!

Best,

Ms. H.

Welcome to Third Grade in 3C!

Dear Third Graders and Parents,

Welcome to third grade!  I am truly looking forward to our year together, as we have wonderful learning ahead of us.  Be prepared to inquire, collaborate, and explore!

On this website, you will find various resources for our class, as well as student e-Portfolios (soon to come!) and our classroom calendar.  For daily updates about our classroom, please follow the classroom Instagram (Condors3C) and Twitter (@Condors3C) accounts.

What's in Store for Week 1?

This week, we will take time to learn all about our friends in the classroom, establish classroom norms and routines, and begin reading and math class structures.  We will also begin to set class goals and learn what it means to have a student-led classroom.  That's right, third grade - you are in charge of your own learning!

A quick note about homework:

As is consistent with all third grade classes at Lincoln, homework packets will be sent home each Monday, and are to be returned every Friday in each student' homework folder (which students have been asked to provide, as listed on the supply list).  Tasks will consist of important review material and weekly reading, yet will also be short so as to respect your valuable family time and extracurricular activities.

This week, however, will be a bit different:  We will have some special getting-to-know-you tasks.  As part of the preparation for these fun community-building activities, students will be expected to bring the following as a special assignment:

Monday's SPECIAL Assignment:

For Tuesday, please bring a souvenir of something from your vacation.  Whether you traveled or enjoyed time at home, we want to hear about your vacation!  Choose an item:  It can be anything, so long as it reminds you of the summer.  Please be sure to bring it on Tuesday morning for sharing!

Weekly Homework Assignment:

By Friday, please complete the Student Survey and return to school.  Please remind your parents to do the same!

My door is always open to you.  Should you have any questions, please email me at christine.hodges@lincoln.edu.ar.  I truly look forward to knowing each and every one of you, as we grow together throughout the year as a supportive community of learners!

Sincerely,

Ms. Hodges

Mystery Skype

we are setting up for a mystery Skype.

Ms.Hodges is preparing us for the mystery Skype.

Greeters start off.

They live north of the equator.

We have clues, they live in the United States.

They don't live in Texas.

They are not west of Misuri.

More clues, they are north  of Ohio.

They don't live on the south of Michigan.

They aren't in Minnesota.

They don't live in Michigan.

They guessed our country first.

They don't live live in Wisconsin.

We guessed the country, they live in New York.

They live west of Monroe.

They don't live in Chester.
